How To Change Your Server Icon
How to Customize Your Minecraft Server Icon
Why Your Server Icon Matters
In the competitive world of Minecraft multiplayer, first impressions are everything. The server icon is a vital piece of your brand’s identity; it is the first thing a player sees when they open their multiplayer server list. A custom icon does more than just look good—it signals to potential players that your server is professionally managed, active, and unique. Without a custom icon, your server displays the default gray “X” or the generic Minecraft logo, which can make your community look unpolished. By adding a unique graphic, you grab attention and make your server instantly recognizable among a sea of others.
Technical Requirements and Best Practices
Before you begin the upload process, it is important to ensure your image file meets the specific technical requirements of the Minecraft client.
- File Format: Due to engine limitations, icons must be in the
.pngformat. Other formats like.jpgor.gifwill not be recognized by the server software. - Transparency: One of the benefits of using the PNG format is that transparent backgrounds are fully supported. This allows you to create circular or uniquely shaped logos that pop against the dark background of the Minecraft server list.
- Dimensions: Minecraft renders server icons at exactly 64×64 pixels. To avoid your artwork appearing stretched, blurry, or distorted, we strongly recommend using a perfectly square image. While our system will attempt to resize larger images for you, starting with a square canvas ensures your logo remains crisp and professional.
Step-by-Step Upload Guide
Follow these instructions to apply your icon using the Firecone Dashboard:
- Access Your Account: Log in to the Firecone Dashboard using your credentials.
- Select Your Instance: From your main server list, choose the specific server you wish to customize.
- Navigate to Properties: Once you are redirected to the server’s Console page, look at the top navigation bar. Hover over the “Server” menu and then navigate to the Server Properties section.
- Initiate Upload: At the very top of the properties list, you will see a dedicated button labeled “Add Server Icon.” Click this to open the upload interface.
- Select Your File: Click on “Choose File” to browse your local device. Select the square PNG file you prepared earlier.
- Confirm Upload: Click the “Upload” button. Our system will automatically process the image and place the
server-icon.pngfile in your server’s root directory. - Finalize Changes: To apply the new icon, you must (Re)start your server. This allows the Minecraft software to register the new file and begin broadcasting it to players.
Troubleshooting Tips
If your icon does not appear immediately after a restart, ensure the file is exactly named server-icon.png in your File Manager. Additionally, players who already have your server in their list may need to click the “Refresh” button in their Minecraft client to clear their local cache and see your brand-new look.
If you encounter any errors during the upload process, verify that your file size is not excessively large (usually under 1MB is best) to ensure a smooth transition to our storage nodes.
